In Sync
September 6th — October 30th
“In Sync” features photography by Claudia Gorman and constructions in paper, metal, and collage by Basha Ruth Nelson.
Basha Ruth Nelson has a passion for vertical shapes, trees, curls from ocean spray, the curves of mountains and waves are her inspirations providing primary artistic direction. Her work is intuitive. Whether sculpture, construction or installation, the hallmark is the creation of unity between form and space in which my pieces live. Her sculptures, constructions in paper, stainless steel, aluminium and copper, engage the viewer through surface and scale, looking at ordinary materials in a new way. Basha follows her heart and deep commitment to Freedom. Past exhibitions have included interactive installations and performances as part of her ongoing Freedom Project. Basha Ruth Nelson has a Master of Arts Degree from New York University (NYU). She has had more than fifteen solo exhibitions and eleven group shows throughout the Hudson Valley plus numerous international exhibits as well as being in private collections.
Claudia Gorman has embraced photography as an art form since the late 70’s. As a photographer, she believes the click of the shutter is the beginning of a visual journey. Creating the photographic print is as important as taking the picture. Gorman says the final image is all about her vision, moods and insight. Subtle manipulations in the film or digital darkroom, camera and film choices, as well as hand coloring B/W photographs and using alternative processes, are all tools she uses to create art.
Gorman studied at the International Center of Photography in NYC and at the Center for Photography at Woodstock with mentors including Colleen Kenyon, Craig Barber, Sarah Charlesworth, George Tice and Ralph Gibson. Her fine art prints have been exhibited extensively for 30+ years in more than eight solo and group shows, in NYC as well as nationally. Her hand colored photographs were exhibited in Photofolies outside of Paris, France. This exhibit focuses on her passion for birds, their extraordinary mannerisms and the magic of flight.
